Lake Wisconsin is a 7,000+ acre freshwater lake with a max depth of 24 feet in Columbia and Sauk counties. It offers public fishing piers and fishing tournaments throughout the year. You can find a Lake Wisconsin fishing report and contour map of the water on the DNR website.
During late spring and summer, walleye like the stump-covered flats. Use live bait for walleye. Jigging with a minnow is common. When the fish are feeding on mayfly larvae in early summer, try a small jig tipped with a leech.
Largemouth bass like the shallow, weedy bays, such as Grubers Grove, Weigands Bay, Moon Valley, Okee Bay and Whalens Bay. During spring and into the summer months, try casting spinnerbaits near vegetation, stumps and submerged timber along the shoreline.
Crappie fishing is best at the end of March and into April, during the spawning season. Look for these fish in shallow bays, such as Weigands Bay and Okee Bay. Try slip bobber rigs with small minnows. After spawning, crappie move near standing timber.
Fun fact: Wisconsin’s state fish is the Muskellunge, also known as a musky, often spelled muskie around the Great Lakes. Wisconsin muskie fishing lakes include Lake Wisconsin. The highest catch rates are in summer when the water temperature is warm.

Lake Wisconsin offers several other boat launches and marinas. West Point Boat Landing is popular, with access off Highway 188 and Lake Drive. Lake WI fishing charters and Wisconsin River fishing charters offer guided trips for walleye, bass, muskie and panfish. Options include 1/2 and full-day trips, and some charters provide service for open water or ice fishing. Most charters provide all rods, reels, tackle and bait, & many will clean your fish.
